Aweis, courageous yet humble, did not want this biography to be written, but he was dragged into it kicking and screaming. He finally relented and reluctantly started cooperating. This biography is also a reminder to Somali Muslims that the notion “to be a Somali is to be a Muslim” is erroneous. Aweis Ali, PhD, is a Somali missiologist, poet and paremiologist. Former employers include the Somali Government, EU, UNICEF, UNOSOM and Samaritan's Purse. He became a disciple of Christ in 1986 through the ministry of SIM. Aweis, the first Somali churchman to earn a ministry-related doctoral degree, recently accepted to join the faculty of Shiloh International Theological Seminary as an adjunct Professor. Aweis, a scholar of Islam and Christianity, is also an author, editor, lyricist and hymnodist. Aweis is a leading authority on the persecuted church in the Muslim world with unique expertise on the Somali church; he has been ministering in the Muslim world since 1993. Aweis has lived and served in world areas that include the Horn of Africa, East Africa, West Africa, and the United States.
Aweis earned a BTh degree from the Evangelical Theological College in Addis Ababa; an MDiv degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO.
